Intelligent ASP is Little Greene’s all-surface primer and undercoat, tinted to the paint colour you are viewing. Where it is available for this colour, choose Intelligent ASP from the Finish dropdown above, then select your tin size and add it to your basket. Your primer order stays linked to this colour.
The preparation your surface needs depends on its condition and your chosen topcoat. Read the Intelligent ASP product advice sheet ↗ and the advice sheet for your topcoat before starting.
Start with the surface and how much wear it will get, then choose your sheen. Open a finish below for practical advice and the manufacturer’s English product advice sheet.
Finish and size availability varies by colour. Check the options on your chosen colour’s product page.
A soft, almost reflection-free finish for bedrooms, living rooms and dining rooms. This water-based emulsion is wipeable and gives walls and ceilings a calm, even appearance. Choose it for quieter spaces where the depth of colour matters more than frequent cleaning.
Allow new plaster to dry fully and follow the sheet’s dilution guidance for the first coat. Suitable for dry lime and natural plaster, subject to compatibility. Avoid heavy condensation while the coating cures.
Little Greene product advice sheet English PDF ↗A practical choice for busy rooms when you want a very matt appearance. The reinforced water-based finish combines washability with good water resistance, making it useful for family spaces and frequently used walls. Its self-priming formulation can also suit prepared woodwork and other surfaces described in the advice sheet.
Self-priming still requires clean, sound, properly prepared surfaces. Follow the separate instructions for wood, metal, plaster and plastics. Not recommended for lime or natural plaster. Allow 10–14 days for full cure before demanding cleaning or moisture exposure.
Little Greene product advice sheet English PDF ↗A washable water-based eggshell with a gentle sheen that gives joinery more definition than matt paint. Its water resistance makes it a useful option for kitchen furniture, bathroom and kitchen walls, trim and radiators. The self-priming formulation also provides good adhesion to properly prepared older oil-based coatings.
Clean and prepare for the specific surface; plastics require primer and bare metal needs appropriate treatment. Not recommended for lime or natural plaster. The final sheen develops over several days, and full cure can take 10–14 days.
Little Greene product advice sheet English PDF ↗A smooth water-based satin for furniture and trim, with a more noticeable sheen than eggshell. Resistance to washing, wear and stains makes it a good option for doors, skirting and cabinets that receive regular handling. The advice sheet also covers suitable exterior applications.
Prepare and clean the surface even where a separate primer is unnecessary. Follow the sheet for bare timber, metals and previously painted surfaces. Protect the coating from heavy condensation while it cures; full cure can take 10–14 days.
Little Greene product advice sheet English PDF ↗A water-based floor finish for wooden and concrete floors subject to light or medium traffic. Its mid-sheen appearance adds definition, while resistance to washing and wear helps it cope with everyday use. Choose it for suitable domestic floors rather than assuming any decorative trim paint can withstand foot traffic.
Remove wax, contamination and unsuitable coatings, and follow the different preparation instructions for timber and concrete. Surface-dry does not mean ready for heavy use: avoid heavy objects for at least 10–14 days and avoid polishing floor cleaners.
Little Greene product advice sheet English PDF ↗A traditional oil-based eggshell for interior woodwork and suitably prepared metal. It produces a durable, water-resistant finish with a restrained sheen. Its longer working time helps achieve an even appearance on doors, cabinets and detailed joinery, but it needs more time between coats than the water-based finishes.
Seal timber knots and use Intelligent ASP where specified; prepare and prime metal appropriately. Keep to the minimum recoat time. Oil-based paint can yellow with heat or limited daylight, especially in white and pale shades.
Little Greene product advice sheet English PDF ↗A water-based high-gloss finish that brings a bright, reflective look to suitable woodwork and metal. Useful for doors, trim and radiators, with interior and exterior applications covered by the manufacturer. A glossier surface highlights detail, so careful filling and sanding make a noticeable difference to the result.
Follow the primer and preparation requirements for your surface; good adhesion depends on cleaning and sanding. Allow full cure before heavy moisture exposure. The sheet notes that heat or limited daylight may cause some yellowing over time.
Little Greene product advice sheet English PDF ↗A classic oil-based gloss for prepared joinery and metal, indoors or outside. Its highly reflective finish suits doors, architectural details and woodwork where a traditional polished appearance is wanted. It gives a durable coating, with a longer drying schedule than water-based gloss.
Prime bare wood and metal as directed, and clean and sand existing coatings. Allow at least 16 hours between coats. Oil-based finishes may yellow in heat or low daylight, particularly in pale colours.
Little Greene product advice sheet English PDF ↗A flexible water-based eggshell for exterior timber, including doors, windows and cladding. Its weather-resistant coating helps accommodate timber movement and resist cracking and peeling. The low sheen gives exterior joinery a softer appearance than gloss, while the easy-clean surface suits everyday use.
Use on sound, suitably dry timber and prepare existing paint thoroughly. Follow the different recoat times for bare and previously painted wood. Check weather and temperature requirements before starting, and protect fresh paint during drying.
Little Greene product advice sheet English PDF ↗A flexible oil-based eggshell for exterior softwood and hardwood, including cladding, windows and doors. Its low sheen offers a traditional alternative to gloss, while the weather- and UV-resistant film protects suitably prepared timber. The longer working time helps the paint flow over detailed joinery.
Follow the timber preparation and priming instructions and allow at least 16 hours between coats. Check weather conditions before painting. As with other oil-based finishes, pale colours may yellow where there is heat or little daylight.
Little Greene product advice sheet English PDF ↗A water-based matt finish for prepared exterior masonry. It forms a water-vapour-permeable coating that tolerates normal building movement and resists sunlight and moisture once fully cured. Suitable preparation is especially important on powdery, previously coated or repaired walls.
Remove loose material and follow the sheet’s priming instructions. Existing limewash or cement-based paint must be removed; not recommended for lime or natural render. Rain or moisture during the 10–14 day curing period can leave watermarks.
Little Greene product advice sheet English PDF ↗A traditional water-based finish with a soft, chalky appearance for plaster walls, ceilings and fine mouldings. Its high breathability makes it useful on suitable lime and natural plaster. Best reserved for quieter rooms and delicate plasterwork, rather than surfaces that are regularly touched or exposed to condensation.
Available in pastel shades; colour can vary between batches. Remove soft distemper before repainting and check compatibility with existing coatings. Not recommended over non-porous oil- or vinyl-based systems. Clean only very gently.
Little Greene product advice sheet English PDF ↗A traditional exterior finish for suitable lime-based building materials and renders. Its highly breathable coating lets moisture vapour escape and gives walls a softly varied, matt appearance. Available in pastel shades, with colour that lightens as it dries and may vary between batches.
Check the substrate carefully before choosing limewash. Allow four coats on new exterior lime render or two to three on existing limewash, as directed. Leave at least 24 hours between coats, increasing to 48 hours in cold, damp conditions.
Little Greene product advice sheet English PDF ↗A water-based primer and undercoat that provides a suitable base beneath Little Greene’s water- and oil-based finishes. Useful for a range of prepared surfaces, including timber, metals and selected existing coatings. It is a preparation product rather than the final decorative finish.
Follow the instructions for your material, including knot treatment and metal preparation. Sand and test adhesion where an existing coating is unknown. Not recommended for lime or natural plaster.

A water-based sealer for walls with uneven absorption, including suitable new plaster, friable areas and patch repairs. It helps create a more consistent base beneath Little Greene water-based finishes, with interior and exterior uses covered by the advice sheet.
Remove loose material and let new plaster dry as specified before applying. Follow the sheet’s dilution and compatibility guidance; choosing a sealer does not replace the need to repair an unsound surface.
Little Greene product advice sheet English PDF ↗Coverage is an approximate figure for one coat on a suitable surface. Allow for the number of coats, texture, porosity and wastage when estimating quantities. Drying times depend on temperature, ventilation and the thickness applied; surface dry does not mean fully cured. Follow the current advice sheet for your finish and surface before starting.
